Splice by Vincenzo Natali, best known for directing the cult horror film Cube, is nominated for Best Motion Picture at the 31st Annual Genie Awards, by the Academy of Canadian Cinema.  It is a part sci-fi and part horror morality tale dealing with the consequences of genetic engineering.

This film is highly twisted, creepy, and disturbing and has an ending that looks like it could have been lifted from the pages of a hentai book.  Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley are both very talented actors who perform convincingly well, but this is a more plot driven than a character story.  The classic mad scientist scenario but taken to another level.  Definitely can't recommend this for everyone, but it is absolutely rewarding if you enjoy unique and original sci-fi/horror.

I've avoided this one so far, it looks quite disturbing...I probably wouldn't be able to stomach it.
Still I enjoyed reading your thoughts on it!

Seen it a while ago, quite creepy! A few flaws here and there. Watchable indeed!
