I Saw the Devil is the eighth film by accomplished South Korean filmmaker Kim Ji-woon.  It is an unflinchingly brutal and extremely violent revenge thriller, starring Choi Min-sik (Oldboy) and Lee Byung-hun (A Bittersweet Life).

Both stars here deliver incredible performances.  Choi as the terrifyingly demented and diabolical killer whose day job is driving a school bus for young girls.  Genuinely one of most intense and scary on-screen villains I have ever seen.  Lee as the bad-ass highly trained special agent bent on exacting twisted and torturous payback.  As the story unfolds, the hunter slowly becomes the hunted, and the hero slowly becomes a monster.

I don't know why revenge is a theme so prevalent in South Korean cinema, but they sure have mastered it.

Hi and welcome to my blog!

Thanks for the comment, I highly enjoyed this too, but I am a very difficult grader and anything above 8.0 for me is an excellent film.

I also have had this on my "Must See" list for ages... been hearing nothing but good things about it. Its true what you say... those Koreans sure know how to do revenge. From the little I have seen the cinematography also looks great, as usual. Really looking forward to it.

I've had this in my Netflix stream queue for ages.  I need to find my glasses so I can read the subtitles and check it out, since it seems like half the LAMB has watched it and loved it.  Thanks for the review!
