The Illusionist is an animated feature by Sylvain Chomet (The Triplets of Belleville) which is nominated for Best Animated Film at the 83rd Academy Awards.  Originally written by legendary filmmaker Jacques Tati but never produced, Chomet has adapted it into a charming and beautiful animated film with a very simple story and minimal dialogue.  I particularly enjoyed the impressively hand-drawn animation, a style that is quickly becoming a lost art.

Heh that's a cool meta aspect, I can't say I've ever been in the same cinema as the events shown on screen.

I love the first half an hour and the last 20minutes, but i thought it got a little slow and rambly in between.  I'm from Edinburgh where it was set so i was never bored seeing places i recognised in animated form (including inside the very screen where i was watching the film, which was strange!).  The last few scenes were perfect though, especially the lights literally going out on dancehall.  The animation was beautiful.

I loved The Triplets of Belleville, but this is the first I've heard of this. Looks fabulous. Thanks for the post.
