IMDB

20 Cigarettes, the directorial debut from Aureliano Amadei, is an autobiographical account of his harrowing experiences in Iraq.  The film premiered at the 2010 Venice Film Festival where it was awarded the Controcampo Prize for best Italian film.

It tells the story of Amadei, the only civilian survivor of the 12 November 2003 suicide attack on the Italian military base in Nasiriyah, played in the film by Vinicio Marchioni.  Shot mostly with a handheld camera, the film looks raw and realistic but the moving narrative is very natural and not at all preachy and its not just a depressing tearjerker, there are some very funny moments within.
