Director: Ruxandra Zenide
Starring: Dorotheea Petre, Valentin Popescu
Ryna is a 16 year old girl living with her family in a remote Romanian village near the Danube Delta after the fall of communism. She has been brought up like a boy because her father had longed for a son. Working as a mechanic and forced to wear large coveralls and short hair, Ryna fights for her true identity.
Ryna is female director Ruxandra Zenide's first film. The cinematography captures a palette of faded colors giving an almost sepia tone. The highlight of the film is Dorotheea Petre's wonderfully charismatic portrayal of Ryna.
