Dogtooth (2009)

Dogtooth / Kynodontas (2009)

Genre: Drama
Director: Giorgos Lanthimos
Starring: Christos Stergioglou, Michele Valley, Aggeliki Papoulia, Mary Tsoni, Hristos Passalis
Duration: 94 min.
Rating: 7.4/10

A married couple and their three adult children, a son and two daughters, live on the outskirts of a city in a large compound with a garden and a swimming pool.  There is a tall fence that surrounds the property and the children have never been on the other side of it.  For their entire lives, they have been cut off from the outside world.

Dogtooth by Yorgos Lanthimos is Greece's official submission to the 83rd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.  It was awarded the Prix Un Certain Regard at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.  An absolutely mesmerizing film that entertains and disturbs equally and certainly one of the most unique scenarios I have ever seen.
