Sea the Sea (1997)

See the Sea / Regarde la mer (1997)

Genre: Drama / Thriller
Director: François Ozon
Starring: Sasha Hails, Marina de Van

Sasha is a young British woman vacationing with her baby daughter at Ile d'Yeu, a peaceful beach community.  She takes in Tatiana, a mysterious backpacker passing through, while her husband is away on business.

François Ozon's first film, See the Sea, is a poetic, suspenseful, and subtly menacing tale of two very different women.  A short precursor to what would be the coming wave of shocking cinema from France.

No, it's not a scary film. There's a suspenseful tension that builds gradually from the opening and then explodes at the end. said...

I bet the child dies
