Mother of Tears is the third and final part of Dario Argento's The Three Mothers trilogy.  Finally completed twenty-seven years after the previous chapter Inferno.  This one can only be described as an outright disappointment.

Gone is the trademark visual style and atmosphere that made his films of the 70's such classics.  Replaced with a modern digital video look that really cheapens the overall effect.  I also wish that he would have used more traditional style makeup and prosthetic effects instead of so much CGI.

It's not all bad though, the film does deliver a couple of very suspenseful scenes, and some really nasty gory scenes that make this one worth watching.

I stayed away from this for the exact reasons you listed. It's not always a bad thing when a series is "shelved" (whether intentionally or not) and then gets revisited, but I just have a hard time going from watching a movie with a certain feel to it only because it's older then going to something with newer technology and techniques and, of course, that feel. What's going to make me actually break down and watch this? Your last sentence :)
