Love and Honor is the third and final film of Yoji Yamada's trilogy of samurai themed films, following The Twilight Samurai and The Hidden Blade.  Once again, the film is set during the end of the Tokugawa shogunate and follows the life of a lower class samurai.

With another solid work, Yamada gives us his take on the blind swordsman legend.  As we follow the story of a food taster for the local feudal lord, who gets blinded after eating tainted shellfish.  However, like his previous outings, don't expect any epic Zatoichi heroics.  The title says it all, this is a film about love and honor, and what a family must do to survive.

But these are not a trilogy as far as needing to be seen in any order? Just a trilogy in theme?
