In a Better World is a Danish film by Susanne Bier, and is the winner of the 68th Golden Globe Award and the 83rd Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the first film to win both since 2004's The Sea Inside.

Not exactly a masterpiece, but it is a very well made drama exploring the cause and effect of escalating violence, and the nature of revenge in the world.  It has a solid story, it just didn't come across as powerful as it could have been.

I have to mention the great acting from the entire cast, especially the two young actors.  The character of Christian, an angst filled teen who gets into fights, brings a knife to school, and builds pipe bombs, really reminded me a lot of myself when I was younger.

Also the cinematography was excellent, shot with the increasingly popular RED ONE digital camera.  I loved how great the skies looked throughout the film, as well as her technique of handheld quick zooms to heighten a scene.

The title reminds me of Haagen Daz (give or take some umlauts). I'm curious how they work out a connection between Sudan and the Danish town.
