Jar City is an Icelandic film directed by Baltasar Kormákur (101 Reykjavik) and is based on a book written by Arnaldur Indriðason, a successful crime novelist.  This was a fairly well crafted bleak and gritty crime thriller with a gripping story and a complex main character acted brilliantly by Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson.

The direction was impressive maintaining tension throughout and aided by some dark and sombre yet beautiful cinematography and equally moody music.  It's a fine example of Icelandic cinema and I'm disappointed that this is not available in North America, and doubly so because I hear someone is remaking it in English and setting it in Louisiana.

Definitely something I would watch but probably like Let the Right One In when I watched it as Let Me In.

This looks brilliant, but unfortunately it is a film that I have had a very hard time finding. I will certainly look for it. Great review!
