Monsters (2010)

Monsters (2010)

Genre: Drama / Sci-Fi
Director: Gareth Edwards
Starring: Whitney Able, Scoot McNairy
Duration: 94 min.
Rating: 7.4/10

Six years ago... NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system.  A space probe was launched to collect samples but broke up during re-entry over Mexico.  Soon after, new life forms began to appear and half the country was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE.  Today, the Mexican & US military still struggle to contain 'the creatures'...

Monsters by Gareth Edwards, recently won three British Independent Film Awards including Best Director.  It is an amazingly well directed micro budget film (they only used $15,000 worth of equipment) which shows Edwards' clear talent as a filmmaker.  It will be interesting to see what he can do with a real budget in the future.

Happy New Year!

Yeah I think the marketing team billed this as primarily an action oriented movie, which is far from the truth.

I remember seeing previews for this in theaters and was very excited to see it. Then it came and went almost instantly around where I live (I'm honestly not even sure they showed it around here, and if they did it went unnoticed - which is even weirder because I live in a big/major city). So I waited until it was released on video to watch it. I was surprised when I watched it, it had a much more subtle and calm feeling to the film than what I thought it was going to have. I was expecting something from the pages of District 9 but got something much different (in most ways, or at least from the "feel" of it). In the end I was very happy with the results.
