Monsters by Gareth Edwards, recently won three British Independent Film Awards including Best Director.  It is an amazingly well directed micro budget film (they only used $15,000 worth of equipment) which shows Edwards' clear talent as a filmmaker.  It will be interesting to see what he can do with a real budget in the future.

Yeah I think the marketing team billed this as primarily an action oriented movie, which is far from the truth.

I remember seeing previews for this in theaters and was very excited to see it. Then it came and went almost instantly around where I live (I'm honestly not even sure they showed it around here, and if they did it went unnoticed - which is even weirder because I live in a big/major city). So I waited until it was released on video to watch it. I was surprised when I watched it, it had a much more subtle and calm feeling to the film than what I thought it was going to have. I was expecting something from the pages of District 9 but got something much different (in most ways, or at least from the "feel" of it). In the end I was very happy with the results.
