A Lake (2008)

A Lake / Un Lac (2008)

Genre: Drama
Director: Philippe Grandrieux
Starring: Dmitry Kubasov, Natalie Rehorova, Alexei Solonchev
Duration: 90 min.
Rating: 6.6/10

The story takes place in a country which we know nothing about: a country of snow and dense forests somewhere in the North.  A family lives in an isolated house near a lake. Alexei, the brother, is a young man with pure heart. A woodcutter. An ecstatic, prey to epileptic fits, he is open to the nature that surrounds him.

A Lake is the third feature film by acclaimed French director Philippe Grandrieux (A New Life).  Once again he demonstrates an unparalleled ability to create an immersive mood and atmosphere with such minimal story, dialogue, and imagery.  A Lake, grips the viewer right from the opening frame and takes you away to a mesmerizing cinematic experience.

Okay, I was completely sold by that description. It sounds so mysterious and moody and fairy-tale-ish *_*

Regardless, I still appreciate your input.

It definitely isn't a film for everyone.

The music is so sad, but the horse cheered me up a bit :)
