Random Musings - October 2011

Random Notes of the Month

This blog has reached 400 posts.
Happy Halloween folks, another month has gone by and this one marked several milestones at bonjourtristesse.net.

Early on in the month I got my 300th follower, thank you to Castor Troy of Anomalous Material!  Then a couple weeks later I gained my 400th follower on Twitter, and also published my 400th post.

That's not all however.  Midway through October I crossed the 100,000 pageview mark!  I think that's pretty amazing considering the obscure content I generally cover here.  Thank you to all my readers, you guys are great!

I also expected the monthly traffic to take a huge dip after changing the domain name last month, but that wasn't the case.  It was slower for about 10 days and then quickly started picking up again to end up being my busiest month ever, just shy of 18,000 views.

It was also a pretty good month for trips to the cinema.  Although I didn't make it out to as many films at VIFF as I would have liked, as if you could ever, I did manage to catch a handful of the ones I've been eagerly anticipating for months like Drive, The Turin Horse and The Kid with a Bike.  Hopefully next year I'll get a press pass and do some proper coverage of the festival.

A big thank you goes to Shutterbug of Thingamajig for the awesome prize package I received for being last month's top scorer.  Come join her great blog for your free chance at cool prizes too!

Moving ahead, tomorrow I will be introducing a new running feature to replace the Spotlight on Hungarian Cinema, and I will also be catching up on more of the 2012 Oscars foreign film entrants, I've already got a half dozen of them queued up to watch, and of course expect the usual scattered Criterion classics and current international releases too.

Random Links of the Month

Once again I didn't do enough blog reading this month, but I found a few posts worth mentioning.

Don't forget to stop by Mette's Lime Reviews and Strawberry Confessions to wish her a happy 1st Blog Birthday.

Then make your way over to Stevee's Cinematic Paradox for her 2nd Blog Birthday.

My best new blog find of the month goes to Aziza's Picks, a small but quickly growing film blog that deserves more readers.

Tyler at Southern Vision comes up with the strangest movie lists you will ever see.  For example: check out his 9 Best Films About Suicide.

Over on My Filmviews, Nostra posted a great review for Almodovar's The Skin I Live In, a film I was lucky enough to see earlier this month as the opener to the 2011 VIFF.

Also at My Filmviews, Jack Deth who is one of my favorite commenters, posted a guest review featuring the 1955 film noir classic The Big Combo.

I'm glad to see Jack L. has returned to the blogging world.  Have a look at his review for Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins one of my favorite films of the year.

BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN
Why American men should boycott American women

http://boycottamericanwomen.blogspot.com

I am an American man, and I have decided to boycott American women. In a nutshell, American women are the most likely to cheat on you, to divorce you, to get fat, to steal half of your money in the divorce courts, don’t know how to cook or clean, don’t want to have children, etc. Therefore, what intelligent man would want to get involved with American women?

American women are generally immature, selfish, extremely arrogant and self-centered, mentally unstable, irresponsible, and highly unchaste. The behavior of most American women is utterly disgusting, to say the least.

This blog is my attempt to explain why I feel American women are inferior to foreign women (non-American women), and why American men should boycott American women, and date/marry only foreign (non-American) women.

BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN!

BRAND NEW: Buy the Boycott American Women book. After reading this book, I promise you that you will never even think about dating an American woman ever again, or else I will give you your money back. That's right, if you are not convinced by my book, I will give you a full refund!

Please also take the time to read a FREE short 100 page book called “Living Free in a Fem-Nazi World”. This book is about freeing you from the fem-nazi, fem-fascist state you live in to live your life as you choose. This book will show you how to no longer be subject to the fem-nazi ‘legislation’ that claims you are a slave with no rights at all.

After reading this short 100 page book, you will understand how to become completely legally free of the feminist legal system worldwide. That is, no woman will ever be able to persecute you or harm you through false DV charges, false rape accusations, feminist divorce courts, etc. In short, you will indeed be a free man in a world of feminism, free and safe from being harmed by feminism.

Glad to hear things are going well here. You cover such original content that I feel you deserve to be successful. Thanks for watching all the difficult films so I don't have to. :). Nah I'll still watch a lot of them.

Congrats on the milestones. 300 Followers is huge. I surpassed 20,000 views again this month, which I am pretty happy with. You will no doubt be there soon, too. Judging by your 'best new film' ratings The Tree of Life, Senna, Drive,  A Separation and 13 Assassins are your Top 5 of 2011. Check out my updated Top 10 to see how similar we are.

Great work!

Thanks Chris.  Now, I just need to set aside some time to watch them.

Bonjour Tristesse said...

Thanks.  I think it was mostly a coincidence all of those things happening at once, I mean it's not like I got a huge surge of visitors or followers this month., but it was still very nice.

Bonjour Tristesse said...

Thanks Impsndcnma!  Hopefully I can convince you to take a chance with some of them.

Bonjour Tristesse said...

Thanks and congrats to you too!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.  Is it already time for an end of month post?

Yeah I was worried about the name change being much more of a speedbump, but it all went super smoothly.  Thanks D4!

Thanks Andy.  Yeah our film tastes do appear to be highly compatible.  Though I haven't seen nearly as many 2011 releases as you have.  Hopefully I can catch up soon.

Bonjour Tristesse said...

Yeah I'm afraid it might be awhile before I have another month like that again.

Bonjour Tristesse said...

You're welcome!  I hope I was able to send some new visitors your way.

Thanks Lurker.

Thanks Scott.  Yeah, I didn't really have the time this year to do a proper job of it so I didn't bother asking, but next year I will definitely book off the time and apply.
