2013 Cannes Film Festival - Award Winners

The 66th Cannes Film Festival comes to an end today with the closing awards ceremony followed by the screening of the closing film, Zulu by Jérôme Salle.

Read on for the full list of awards presented at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival:

Official Competition
La Vie d'Adèle - Chapitre 1 & 2 (Blue is the Warmest Colour)
  • This year's nine member competition jury was led by American filmmaker Steven Spielberg who judged the films alongside actress Nicole Kidman, director Lynne Ramsay, actress Vidya Balan, actor Daniel Auteuil, actor Christoph Waltz, director Ang Lee, director Naomi Kawase, and director Cristian Mungiu.

Quotes from the post festival jury press conference:

"For me, the film is a great love story. The fact that it made all of us feel privileged to be invited to see this story of deep love and heartbreak evolve from the beginning in a wonderful way where time stood still. We were absolutely spellbound by the performances and the way the director observed his players. Whether or not it plays in the United States, that was not a criteria for any of our choices. We just were really happy that somebody had the courage to tell the story the way they told it." Steven Spielberg on the winning film.
"We are all from very different places, yet we were able to come to a unanimous consensus on at least three of the critically important choices." Steven Spielberg
"It went beyond the politics. It went beyond just a lesbian love affair. Everyone could identify with it. I thought that was very special." Lynne Ramsay
"It's all said. Just drop it. It's a love story." Christoph Waltz
"We were trying to give awards to cinema, not for political statements. When you forget that you are in the theatre, and you see that life is next to you and on the screen at the same time. When you forget for a second that this is a film, this is something that speaks to you." Cristian Mungiu

Great coverage. I'm surprised Spielberg and his jury chose "Blue is the Warmest Colour" which makes me want to see it. I'm glad they picked some good winners while I'm happy that Bruce Dern and Berenice Bejo got the acting awards. An overall great Cannes.

I knew nothing about Blue is The Warmest Color before Cannes, always great when a festival can introduce people to something new. Thanks for all the coverage, BT
