I'm glad Rust and Bone won some awards. I'm not upset that Amour was the big winners. Glad to see Argo picking up another. Man, the Oscars are looking dumb for the fact that they snubbed Ben Affleck for Best Director.
Amour did well and another nod to Argo.
Well deserved wins by Amour - I can't wait to see how it does at the Oscars (all my fingers crossed). I'm glad for Alexandre Desplat's win as well, I love his scores! And I'm glad to see Oslo, 31 August was nominated, I loved it!
Holy Motors went home empty handed? Boooooo
I'm disappointed Holy Motors got nothing, and it was a bit of a lame show, many of the winners and nominees were not in attendance. It will be interesting to see how Amour does tomorrow night.
Yeah another damn award for Argo. It's an entertaining film, but it must be a very weak year for it to be scooping up all these accolades.
Yep, Desplat is the man. And I hope Amour scores big tomorrow night as well. Thanks for visiting Ruth!
Boooooo, Indeed.
Well, this is hugely disappointing. My big hopes were for Holy Motors here and Amour at the Oscars. Argo for best foreign film is devastating - its a film I was so unimpressed with, I chose not to review it. I also would have liked to see journal de France hop up against Les Invisables - but to be fair I haven't seen either. All the winners except the short are on at the French Film Festival here in a few weeks, so I have that lovely item to look forward to.
Great Cesars coverage BT. I really enjoyed the film review approach. I found myself rushing to your blog all week.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA - honorary Cesar to Kevin Costner? Man THAT barrel needs some fresh contenders! (Apologies in advance to any Costner fans)
I too was underwhelmed by Argo, and I can understand why it's such a hit, but it remains as you say, unimpressive, to me.
And I'm glad you enjoyed the reviews, I'm really interested in what you think of those films. Particularly the Ozon. Being a writer, I imagine that one will strike a chord with you.
Hahah, they do make some strange picks. Kate Winslet last year, hell Will Smith has one...
Will Smith! That made my night - I'm still giggling.
Fantastic coverage. Over the past couple of years I have really been diving into French cinema. I did a recent week long look at it and I find myself drawn to it through older and new films. Anxious to try and catch up with some of these nominees!
Thank you Keith glad you found it useful. Look forward to your thoughts on the ones you manage to see.
I didn't even know Cesar was on, so glad you covered it Bonjour! Not surprised Amour won a lot of awards. I still need to see it but sounds like it's worth all the kudos.
Yeah the Césars always get eclipsed by the Oscars, even in France. For example: Haneke, Trintignant, and Desplat were all no-shows. Thanks for the visit Ruth, I hope you get a chance to see Amour soon.
