The official Best Foreign Language Film submissions to the 2013 Oscars have been announced by their respective countries.
The final official list, revealed on October 8 2012, consists of a record number of 71 films.
This is the first time Kenya has taken part, and the second time for Cambodia with its first submission since 1994.
Iran, who won last year for A Separation, originally selected Reza Mirkarimi's A Cube of Sugar, but later announced that they would boycott this year's awards.
No other films were withdrawn or disqualified.

Thanks for the early news, BT. Barbara is on my anticipated list, I saw it won Silver Bear for best director at Berlin Film Festival
And I'm left completely at a blank and realize that this is why I visit you.
I'm with D4 at the moment!
I saw Barbara at the Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival and could it be a serious finalist
Great list - thanks for the coverage BT. I was left a little cold by Barbara, although I still think Nina Hoss might be the most beautiful woman alive. But I can't wait to see the others.
I hope A Simple Life would win this time, such a deserving one.
I can't believe it has been a year since you started this last time... jeeeesh
Mine too. It just sounds like my type of film. Hopefully I'll get a chance to screen it soon.
That's what I'm here for.
Thanks for stopping by Ricardo. That's good to hear about Barbara. What do you think Argentina's entry will be?
I agree it should have been nominated last year. Sadly it is not eligible this time around
Good to hear from you again Lisa, hope all is well. I remember skimming your review of it a few months back. Hopefully I get to see it soon.
I know, one year to the day. The time just flies.
I have only seen 6 of these so far, but they were all good films. Tops would be Amour and Caesar Must Die, but I also really liked Lore (a high quality Australian/German production), A Royal Affair and No. Heard great things about War Witch, Beyond the Hills, Sister and The Intouchables. Should be interesting.
The submissions look ssoo impressive this year. Dying to see "Our Children", "Amour", "Lore", "War Witch", "A Royal Affair", "Barfi!" "No".
Great work - keep it coming.
Estonia!! Woooo - representing proudly! Sadly, I haven't seen it since I'm not in Estonia at the moment but I did see the trailer and it looked very promising!
Yeah lots of good films here, I think the competition this year will be a close one.
So have you taken the chance to watch the Hypnotist? Maybe not that funny without subtitles though... hahah
The Swedish entry is only picked because Hallström directed it. I have only heard bad stuff about and everyone who is into Oscar predictions can easily put it in the category that it will not making the final round.
I've now seen most of the one's you listed here, and I think it's going to be a very tight race.
That's a shame, My Life as a Dog is one of my all time favorites, so I had my fingers crossed that this would be a return to form.

Well, I have to say I was thrilled thrilled thrilled to see Haneke nominated for best director and Amour for best film, even outside of the best foreign film category. I can't see Amour winning best film (it will win best foreign film for sure) but maybe they will give Haneke a gong for director as a kind of lifetime achievement thingy... I haven't been this interested in the Academy Awards for years!
I agree, it would be amazing if he somehow steals one of the main awards, and the possibility of it might be enough to make me actually watch the ceremony for once.
