Filantropica is a film from Romanian director Nae Caranfil. It is a black comedy set in contemporary Bucharest about a high school teacher and part time writer who stumbles upon an elaborate money making scheme.
Quite different in style and theme to the current crop of bleak, minimal, and realistic films of the Romanian New Wave, this precursor is light, humorous, and done with relatively high production quality.
The story is an ironic satire of the transition from a communist to a capitalist society and those who dream of making a better life in that new economy. It has decent acting though nothing spectacular, and a strong and unique screenplay that make this an enjoyable watch, but I feel that this was meant more for Romanians than an international audience.

Yeah, nice gem of a suggestion.
the cinematography looks nice. :)
Yeah, I thought this was a teacher turning tricks. The poster makes me think he's screaming "YOU ARE TEARING ME APART, LISA!"
I'll give it a whirl and just try to bypass any 'Romanian-only' references. (I'm still not sure HOW this teacher makes extra money. IS IT SEX? :)
Sorry for the double post, but do you have a public email I could contact you at?
No he scams by taking advantage of the goodwill of strangers.
