Rating: 7.9/10

An anthology of six short films, retelling urban legends from the late communist era in Romania.  A period that the communist propaganda at the time referred to as the Golden Age.

Tales from the Golden Age is a group effort assembled by Cristian Mungiu (4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days).  While much of the detail will be missed by those of us who did not live behind the Iron Curtain, they paint a picture of what that life may have been like.  Subjects and stories that may be funny today but were serious and common situations during that time.

I immediately spotted the pig in the living room first, haha. Also, Communism is really interesting to me - reading about China and Russia during those times is both fascinating and depressing.

Definitely checking this out!

A smuggled pig, who that family is trying to slaughter quietly, so they wont have to share it with the entire apartment block. Meat was a scarce commodity in those times, because the government exported it all as part of an effort to pay off the national debt.

Sweetness. I have always wondered what it would be like to live under a communist regime during the Cold War. I suppose movies are probably going to be the best bet behind a good novel to help me feel the iron fist crushing my soul.

Yeah, fortunately we only have to see it through fiction.
